Futa, It Is Time To Talk (Fuuta, Le Temps Est Venu D’en Parler)

Harouna, a young Fulani from northern Senegal, is upset by the death of a close friend who died from the health consequences of undergoing female genital cutting (FGC) as a little girl. In early 2009, Harouna, returns home and discovers that men, women, and entire villages are questioning and abandoning the practice of FGC and child/forced marriage.

“Futa, It Is Time to Talk” was produced by Respect, a Belgium-based NGO. In collaboration with NGO Tostan, the documentary is currently used as a social mobilization and advocacy tool for communities throughout Senegal. The documentary was screened out of competition at the 2011 Pan-African Film Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) and in Fulani communities.
